B.Protek: Four Franchise Owners Now Lead the Network

For the first time in over a decade, B.Protek is entering a new chapter. On June 1, 2026, founder Nicolas Desjardins transferred full ownership of the company to four entrepreneurs from his network: Maxime Rodrigue and Joany Drouin, franchise owners in Quebec's Eastern Townships, and Mathieu Toulouse and Roxanne Gauvin, franchise owners in Quebec's Montérégie and South Shore regions.

The four new co-owners now lead both brands under the same group: B.Protek Concrete Coatings across Canada, and Béton Surface in Quebec.

It's a rare setup in franchising: franchise owners buying out the franchisor itself. And it's exactly the outcome Nicolas Desjardins had hoped for.

A transition years in the making

Rather than sell to an investor group or an outside buyer, the founder chose to hand the business to people who already understood it from the inside.

"When I founded this company more than ten years ago, I wanted to build something lasting, something that would create opportunities for other entrepreneurs. Passing it on today to franchise owners who grew their own territories, who share our values and know our culture, is the strongest proof this model works."

— Nicolas Desjardins, Founder of B.Protek and Béton Surface

Who are the four new owners?

Before joining the network, Maxime Rodrigue, Joany Drouin, Mathieu Toulouse and Roxanne Gauvin came from very different backgrounds, from mechanics to social work. What brought them to the brand was something they all shared: a genuine drive to help people, whether that meant a family dealing with water damage or a business owner looking to refresh their space.

Over the years, all four stood out for expanding their territories, demonstrating strong leadership, and helping build the wider network. That track record is what put them at the head of the very organization they helped shape, from franchise owners to franchisors.

"This acquisition is more than a transaction. It's the result of years of commitment to this brand and this network. Having built our own territories, we know exactly what it takes to grow one, and that's what we plan to do across the country. We're honoured to carry forward the work Nicolas started."

— Maxime Rodrigue, Joany Drouin, Mathieu Toulouse and Roxanne Gauvin, co-owners of B.Protek and Béton Surface

The story recently caught the attention of Quebec business media, which featured it as an example of successful business succession, at a time when thousands of Quebec entrepreneurs are looking to hand off their companies.

Does this change anything for you as a customer?

No, and it's important to clarify this because an ownership change can seem unsettling from the outside. What has changed is the franchisor—the group that supports and guides the entire network. Every franchise owner remains an independent owner of their own business in their respective territories, just as before. The service and quality standards will stay the same.

If you've worked with a B.Protek franchise owner in the past or have a project currently underway, nothing will change on your end: you will continue to work with the same franchise owner, who will honor the same warranty and commitment to your project. This change occurred at the head office level, not in the field.

What is different now is the leadership team, which has extensive industry experience and is dedicated to running a network that is actively growing. This new team brings even more resources to support each franchise owner, which, in turn, benefits every customer.

The company by the numbers

  • Founded in 2014 in Montreal

  • 21 franchise locations across Canada, 11 of them in Quebec

  • More than 2,000 clients served every year

  • Over 10,000 completed projects

  • About 10 head office employees and more than 80 people active across the network

The group first built its reputation in Quebec through concrete resurfacing, repair and protective coatings, then brought that same expertise to the rest of Canada under B.Protek Concrete Coatings, a brand in its own right, built on the same know-how and now under the same leadership.

What's next: 10 new territories by 2028

Under the new ownership, the goal is clear: add 10 new territories by 2028, strengthening the brand's footprint in Quebec while accelerating growth across the rest of the country.

For entrepreneurs considering a move into business ownership, the timing is right to join a network that's actively growing, backed by an established brand and a business model proven over more than 10 years.

Why become a B.Protek franchise owner now

Joining the network today means stepping into real momentum: a recognized brand, a leadership team made up of former franchise owners who know the work firsthand, and an ambitious growth plan opening up new territories across the country.

What stands out most in Maxime, Joany, Mathieu and Roxanne's story is that none of them built their territory on their own. Opening a B.Protek doesn't mean starting from scratch or facing the challenges of a new business alone. New franchise owners step into a network that's already active on day one: training, proven operating methods, ongoing support, and a leadership team that has personally been through every stage of growing a territory.

Marketing works the same way. Local marketing efforts are heavily backed by head office, from online visibility to lead generation to how the brand shows up in a given market. A new franchise owner isn't left to figure out a strategy alone; they're building on an established brand, with a team whose job is exactly that.

And the network isn't slowing down. With 10 new territories targeted by 2028, B.Protek is in an active growth phase, which speaks volumes about the upside for anyone joining now. Maxime, Joany, Mathieu and Roxanne's story makes the point well: a well-built territory, with the right support behind it, can go a long way.
